Rebuilding MD

MD has now moved onto a totally new host. It is now running on a back-end spanning across several servers. Separate servers are used for database, web serving, firewall and DNS. Everything running on Linux, which is putting me on a learning curve but it’s a good one.

I was hosting MD at Site5 for over a year and while it’s been good, there are so many things that have changed in that time. I’m also a lot more involved in IT now than I was previously, so it felt like a good time to get MD to start fresh. There’s still a lot more to do with the server and there’s a few ideas I want to put down on the site too. Several interesting topics I want to cover and it’ll be interesting to see how much of a turnaround I can do with MD.

On another topic, I’m currently in Arizona, near by to Phoenix. Working with several friends here on a few projects and learning a bunch of things along the way. I’ve been here for a bit over a week already and it’s been pretty interesting. The weather is even better than it was in the San Francisco Bay Area. Population wise, it’s not as dense where I am, which makes things less noisy. But I think sometimes the outside noise keeps my mind busy.

One thing - there’s about as many asians in this area as I have digits - literally. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that but it’s the first time I’ve felt so alienated. I get tons of looks when I’m out on the town, by women of course, and they were probably thinking something along the lines of:

OMG! A real life asian! Let’s get to know him.

That’s likely what they were thinking anyway. I still have to get use to all the extra attention.
